What I'm Reading...
This blog is designed to share what I am reading. As I finish reading chapter books that are appropriate for elementary students, I will write about them here. Maybe something I read will spark your interest!
![]() Since Christmas is on its way, I thought I should pull a Christmas story off of my shelf--and this one is by one of my favorite authors! Cornelia Funke's When Santa Fell To Earth (Lexile: 700; Reading Level: Grades 3-5) is a fun story about the last Santa Claus, Niklas Goodfellow, who crashed his caravan into Ben's neighborhood. Faced with children who no longer believe in Santa or the magic of Christmas on one hand and evil Santas who have migrated to convincing parents to buy factory-made toys instead of elf-made toys on the other hand, Niklas is boldly trying to hold onto the magic of the season. This story is full of adventure, magic, and humor. I found it to be an easy read, especially since I couldn't put it down! I have loved all of the books I have read by Cornelia Funke, and this one did not disappoint! (167 pages)

![]() The is the third and final book of the Beyonders series by Brandon Mull, Chasing the Prophecy (Lexile: 720; Interest Level: Grades 5-8), begins with our heroes (Jason, Rachel, Galloran and their friends) gaining their strength and planning at a secluded jungle retreat after having heard a prophecy that gave them a small chance of overcoming the emperor. The group splits into two, one taking Jason to seek the prophecy of Darian the Seer (who died over 1,000 years ago) and one following Galloran (and Rachel) to take back Trensicourt and prepare an army to attack Felrock. Will the friends be able to complete the tasks set by the oracle? Will they be able to do it in time to defeat Maldor? How many friends would they lose along the way? I don't want to give away the ending, but I will tell you that this book is full of adventure, nail-biting close calls, and worry about making the right choices. You will definitely need to read this trilogy in order, starting with World Without Heroes. (506 pages). |
AuthorOne of the reasons I became an elementary school librarian is so I can read children's books. Archives
